A Special Farwell At Paulaner!

I am stuck at home over the weekend down with a terrible cold (runny nose and sore throat), taking some super-duper drowsy medication. It's not that bad since I got to be at the airport later tonight, forcing me to really stay at home, get some rest and blog a little. To think about it, I've not been sick for the pass 3 months (except for a minor food poisoning saga). Great, I am definitely getting happier by the day! Oh, I will really like to mention that I started feeling unwell since Friday and my colleagues were very nice and showed much concern. I thank them for being so sweet.

Anyway, I was down at  Paulaner Bräuhaus and Restaurant recently to send a colleague off as he found a "greener pasture" out there. I sincerely wish him all the best, and as our Head said, we'll definitely see each other in this specialised industry. Once again, all the best, work hard and play harder!

Back to the food that I'm suppose to blog on, this is a German restaurant that serves an authentic Bavarian menu (available on their website, link provided above). I must also say, the service provided by the crew was fantastic. I totally enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the place, merry but not rowdy, I'm referring to the second floor where the restaurant is as the ground floor area is purely for the drinkers and a live band, no restaurant food is served there.

The stairway leading to the second floor

A photo taken from outside the restaurant

The centrepiece decor of the restaurant, looks really cheery to me.

The interior of the restaurant.
It's not a very well lit place for you information,
but rest assured you can still see your company and the food.

Where "liquid gold" flows fresh from the tap

A little bread starter for the hungry, served with liver pate and butter

The liver pate's smooth and pleasant to the taste buds, I'll love
to spread it on my hot toast every morning for breakfast. Yum yum...

Bavarian creamy mushroom soup with fresh herbs (Bayerische Schwammerlsuppe
mit frischen Kräutern) for SGD 9 a bowl.
The mushroom soup's quite expensive but it is worth it. It's superbly creamy, buttery smooth and ohhh-so-mushroomie. It screams "Comfort Food!!!". Love!

We also ordered the Smoked Norwegian salmon on crispy salad, apple horseradish, capers and onions (Norwegischer Räucherlachs auf grünem Salat, Apfelmeerettich, Kapern und Zwiebeln) for SGD 18.50 which is enough to serve 2 to 4 people. I did not manage to take the picture of the salad because it was place too far away from me when served, by the time it got close enough, it was already in a delicious mess. The greens are so fresh and crisp, love the burst of saltiness every time I bite into a tiny caper berry. The smoked salmon and all the rest of the ingredients complimented each other so well that I'll mentally noted that I'll come back one day and have the whole salad to myself, muahahaha.
Paulaner Brew House special platter (Paulaner Bräuhausplatte)
for SGD 29.50 per person

Their sumptuous platter is heaped full of Kassler, Nürnberger, cheese Krainer and grilled pork sausages, grilled and boiled knuckle, meatloaf, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes (Kassler, Surhaxe, Wurstschnecke, Leberkäse, Käsekrainer, Nürnberger und Grillshaxe mit Sauerkraut und Kartoffelpüree). I was really pleased when it was served and thought "It's like food porn, oh... don't think, just eat." Everything on the plate was flavourful, grilled-juicy and really so lovely tender. Yes, just eat.

Extreme top of the photo:
Bavarian sausage platter (Bayrischer Würstelmix)
SGD 25.50 per person
The sausage platter was placed at the other end of the table, so apologies that the actually-really-big-serving of sausage platter looked really small in the photo. The platter's piled with Cheese Krainer, sausage Snail, Kolbazi sausage and Nürnberger grilled sausage served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes (Käsekrainer, Wurstschnecken, Pepperoniwurst und Nürnberger mit Sauerkraut und Kartoffelpüree). It a good dish to order if you want to try all different gourmet sausages they have.

Close up photo of Paulaner Brew House special platter
By now I guess even my readers are getting the point I got during that meal. Too meaty, even for a meat-lover like me. Other than the salad I had at the start, I might not have enjoyed the meal as much if not for the mustard condiment and sauerkraut that came along with the orders. I've always loved sauerkraut and it was that I was really looking forward to when I knew we were heading to Paulaners, however I realised that not many knew what it was, it's purposed for it to be served with a meat dish and how to appreciate this pickled dish. Hence, I happily dug in to the whole portion of sauerkraut that was virtually untouched.

The star of the meal, Munich Lager. (Alc. 5.0%)
I must agree that this place serves one of the best beer you can get in Singapore. It's fresh malt beer that they self-brew with Hallertauer Perle hops, hence it's refreshingly fizzy and leaves a slightest bitter-sweetness to the taste buds. I really love how smooth it went down the throat. It's one of the best thing to have after a hard day at work, SGD 13 per pint is worth it, but the consequence of having a beer belly stopped me toying around with the idea.

My colleagues
Overall, we all enjoyed the meal thoroughly, got pleasantly high after a few rounds of beer and when home with a blissful smile stuck on our faces. Great place, wonderful food. You must go and experience to know what I'm talking about. Until then, happy feasting!

Supper From Star

Dedicated to my ex-colleague but a great friend, Star.

This is one of the reason why I love working the same graveyard slot with Star, to death. Supper! Each and every time Star buys supper for me, it's definitely delicious yum yum. Never without fail, Star will always choose the perfect supper that makes me go completely gaga over. Although we are no more in that shift, I'll still like to leave a imprint record of this wonderful "footprint" .The below is just one classic example.
It's Nasi Lemak & Koi Bubble Tea!

Coconut rice served with curry vegetable, ngoh hiong (五香), sotong (squid) ball, luncheon meat, mackerel otah, cucumber slices & generous scoop of sambal chilli

Each cup is packed individually with airtight seal

Grass Jelly Milk Tea with Pearl (50% Sugar Level)

For the Sugar Level, one can choose form 100% to 0%. "Sweet toothies" can go for 100% and health conscious ones can request for lower levels. It's great to be able to have your drinks prepared to your preferred sweetness.

Even the straw is seal wrapped for hygiene

My lovely supper is truly a high-calorie meal but I can definitely afford to put on some weight now. A simple supper like this, makes me a happy woman. Thank you Star, I had another happy meal!

There are rare occasions that Star will cook, once in a blue blue moon. It's always up to standard considering Star does not step into the kitchen often at all. Below is an example of a lovely lunch treat I got. I may appear quite aloof when Star passed me the packet, but I'm touched for the effort.

I'll also like to take the chance to specially thank all my wonderful colleagues who took turns to make sure eat/ drink something even when I show them my screwed face and tell them I have no appetite. I am so glad I have you guys around to give my support and warmth, I don't think I will be able to make it without everyone. Thank you.
Lunch with Koi again!

Not too sure what "Koi" is was, but it has a lovely creamy top layer...

I love Chwee Kway!
Yum yum yum
Star's version of Nasi Lemak wrapped in Banana leaf!

I'll like to say, the egg was done perfectly to the way I love. Made my day!
Once again, thank you. Although I have left for quite a long time, it still warms my heart when I recall all these wonderful memories. Until the next time, take great care!

Somewhere Over The Rainbow!

Feeling breathless in the office? Your eyes' watery for straining at the monitor? Back's aching after being stuck at the same posture for hours? What the best remedy? I found mine right outside my office window...

Can you see that bit of rainbow amongst the gloom

Then the skies cleared up a teeny bit and the sight took my breath away

It's a huge rainbow! It's a pity that I could not capture the whole beautiful
arch, but it still manged to keep me standing there admiring in silence for a good ten minutes.

Nothing is forever, it evaporated into thin air quickly as the gloom came back.
Although the sublime scenery was short as can be, it left me evidently chirpy humming;

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true...

I believe there's always a rainbow deep in every kind soul's heart. Until the next time, take great care!

I'm So Sorry!

Hello everyone, I'm really sorry for not a single update for such a long time. I've been busy, busy with my new job getting a fantastic project under my wing within the second week I joined. There's new challenges every single day and I feel so "fulfilled" having such a fine environment to learn, absorb and develop. I've got to know new people and explore the new vicinity around my work place. Everything's great!

I even got a chance to travel recently for a 4 days 3 night holiday to my beloved Bangkok. Within such a short trip, I managed to snap more than 500 photos. Thus get ready for detailed day-to-day multiple entries where I fill you in with my venture in the land of smiles! However I may take longer than usual due to my hectic work schedule and packed weekends!

I lack sleep badly as I having been bringing home reading materials from MAS, LIA and additional researched information as my "homework". I'm so eager to learn and I want to be prepared when the need arises, thus I'm working real hard to catch-up. Yes, the learning curve's steep and slippery, (I know it may sound morbid) but I'm loving it.

Office Lobby
Security Gantry
View from my office window
I will admire the view to rest my tired eyes sometimes

Apart from that, I've been spending the rest of my free time reading, currently on an extremely engaging book (which I'm just two thirds through) and catching up with friends. Life is good to me, it seem all pre-arranged that I will ultimately be standing right here without the un-needed muck contaminating my heart, soul and mind. Yes, I might have made a mistake, but life arranged that I don't deserve that. I am free to do what I deem I can, strive to the highest I am able. I'm just glad with everything that I've gain and (ironically) those that I've lost.
As promised to my friends, the Happy Me is definitely in the making and it's progressing extremely well. I'll drop entries whenever I can squeeze time, thank you for your patience!

I Cried On My Final Day...

I know it's already 3 weeks after I left the previous office, that it's a little late to put this entry now. However I still want to have this done as it marks a period of my life that I will never forgot.

I have met and bonded with so many wonderful people in the ANZ office and somehow I know I will never get to come across such a bunch of impressively heartwarming people in my work life. That's the reason why it was so hard for me to make the decision to go. Ironically, it was with the support for these people who encouraged me to make the move to a better pasture.

I did and it was only natural for me to bawl my eyes out when it was time to leave.

I confess, I cried really hard when I was writing the individual farewell emails. I did not want to send one general email for all as I felt each and everyone of them were special to me, but the memories came flooding back as I typed. I really cried. I've heard I did make a few colleagues feel a little "squeeze" in their hearts or even cried after reading my farewell to them. Lol, I'm sorry...

The most surprising part was that I received a cake as a little token from the BM team. I was not expecting anyone to notice my departure and I was not particularly close to the BM team, thus their kind action really... well, I sheded tears of appreciation. Thank you so very much.

I woke up on the following Monday not having to head to work as I was clearing my leave. However, my heart was still with them, thinking of "how's the volume today and how are they coping". Even when I've started my new career, I will still note the important dates, especially the 7th, and felt my heart beat accelerate a bit knowing they will be fighting the "war" soon.

The separation was inevitable, however I'm glad I've opened my online-interacting account so that I can keep in touch with each and everyone of them. I strongly believe, true friends will always be no matter what's the distance between. I willl find time to visit after I'm settled because I do miss them...
